Breaking new ground with the Gungano Urban Poor Fund.
In Zimbabwe, the Gungano Urban Poor Fund is redefining how cities grow, from the bottom up. Built on daily savings from countless low-income households, mostly women, this grassroots fund helps communities finance what governments and banks won’t: land, housing, toilets, markets, solar energy, and dignity.
This short film follows the lives of the people behind the numbers — informal workers, market traders, mothers, and youth — who are building homes and futures one dollar at a time. Through stories of innovation, resilience, and co-production with local authorities, we see what happens when finance is local, flexible, and led by the people who need it most.
This is more than a development story, it is a blueprint for scaling justice, inclusion and climate resilience in cities across the Global South.
