In 2012, SDI and Y Care International began conversations about expanding the joint work started in Sierra Leone to other West African countries. Under a grant from Comic Relief, the multi-country slums project in Sierra Leone, Togo, and Liberia started. The Ghana alliance has been crucial in supporting the emerging Federation in Togo, known as Federation Togolaise des Habitants des Bidonvilles, which is active in 5 settlements in Lome. YMCA Togo provides technical assistance to the Federation.
